FullContact Tags Now Sync With Google Groups

contactspls | June 10, 2015

Today we’re happy to announce the release of a highly-requested feature. Your FullContact Tags and Google Groups will now sync with each other.

Whether you’re a long-time FullContact user, or just getting started, Tags are a great way for you to organize groups of contacts. Until today, your Tags that you assigned in FullContact didn’t sync over to your Google Contacts, and vice versa. But starting today, you can manage your contacts in one place with Tags and Groups syncing to and from Google from your FullContact account.

There are loads of reasons why you’d want to have your Tags and Groups synced across your different accounts, but here are just a few that we hear often:

  • Easily sort and organize contacts so that they’re ready no matter which account you’re using.
  • The ability to quickly email to a Tag by typing in the name in the recipient field.
  • Finally a dead-simple way to manage groups across multiple Google accounts.
  • Quickly export your Tags to another application.

How to Use Tags

Creating Tags inside of FullContact is incredibly easy, and you can do it a few different ways. On the left side menu, you’ll see the Tags section, and clicking on the “Add Tag” button will pop up a box asking you to name the Tag that you want to create. Once you’ve created your Tag, you can then use the search function in the far right panel to add people to it.

But what if you have a Tag that you’ll be adding people to over time? Sometimes you’ll find it easier to select a contact individually, then you can type the Tag that you want to assign to them inside of their contact card.

Inside of FullContact Card Reader and FullContact for iOS, you’ll see the option to add a Tag every time that you scan a business card and of course you can add Tags to anyone in FullContact as well. One of the ways that I like to use this feature is to create a Tag for the event that I’m attending, then assign that Tag to all of the cards that I collect while I’m at the event.

Combined with the Notes function, Tags can also make a powerful quasi-CRM right inside of your FullContact address book. When I’m trying to remember to follow up with people, I’ll add them to a Tag that I’ve named with a specific date. I’ll create a Note for each person, reminding me what I’m supposed to talk to them about, and then I’ll remove the Tag from them when we’ve touched base again.

Where Tags come in especially handy for me is within FullContact for Gmail. When I get or send an email, I can add a Tag to anyone inside the thread, even if I’ve not yet added the person as a contact. In this screenshot, you can see that I’m emailing with Terrance, but he’s not yet been added to FullContact. However, since I’m using FullContact for Gmail, I can quickly add a Tag to Terrance and he’ll be automatically added to my contacts.

Manage Google Contacts Groups

Perhaps the most powerful feature of the Tags and Groups sync is that it now allows you to manage your Google Contacts Groups right inside of your FullContact address book. We’ll sync the changes you make in FullContact back to your Google Contacts.

As you can see in the screenshot, the Tags that I created in FullContact have automatically been synced over to my Google Contacts, creating new Groups inside of Google. Any changes that I make, whether I make them in Google Contacts or in FullContact, are synced to both locations. No matter where I prefer to manage my contacts, I know that they’ll always be up to date.

Taking things a step further, FullContact Premium users will have their Tags synced across all of their connected Gmail accounts, allowing them to manage all their Groups and Tags in one place.

We think you’re going to love the new Tags and Groups sync, and we’re excited to see the new ideas that you come up with for using it. If you’d like to prevent further syncing, just uncheck the box in your Sync Settings and we won’t ask you again.
